Cesc Fábregas |
It’s the business end of the week, let’s just get on with it
So, Cesc Fábregas is a target for Barcelona. Have you heard this one before? But the Catalans are yesterday’s news, a shower of losers, so the Arsenal captain is now making noises about staying put at the Emirates. Thing is, everyone’s talking about Jack Wilshere these days, so nobody cares any more, Cesc. Nobody cares.
Patrice Evra is going to stay at Manchester United, according to reports today. We didn’t even know he was planning to go. We should probably have filtered this one out.
This is potentially quite big, though: Manchester United want to swap one-season wonder Federico Macheda and none-season wonder Anderson for the Roma midfielder Daniele de Rossi. Either that, or they’re talking about spending £14m they don’t actually have.
José Enrique is a £6m target for the one-time European giants Milan, who are looking for players vaguely capable of breaking into a run with a view to chasing after the opposition, making challenges, attempting to intercept the ball, etc. Liverpool are also interested in the Newcastle left-back, who is needless to say considered a trade-up for the perpetually confused Glen Johnson.
Connor Wickham, Ipswich’s 17-year-old super-striker, has already attracted interest from Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool. So it was only a matter of time before the Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp came sniffing around. And here he is, waving £15m around, plus the promise of the sort of tactical guidance (”just bloody well run around a bit”) that has turned Roman Pavlyuchenko into the scoring powerhouse he is today.
And Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic are both interested in Middlesbrough’s Julio Arca. Well that’s a downbeat ending.
